Emotional Intelligence Domain
Emotional Intelligence generally referes to the ability to assess one’s own feelings, feelings of others and respond effectively. Dr. Daniel’s Quardrant is shown below with two of them refers to self and the other two refers to other than self.
Self Awareness
It is the basic understanding of how we feel and why we feel that way.
Social Awareness
It is reading the situation accurately and notice emotions of others.
Self Management
It is the ability to mange own’s feelings,thoughts,emotions in a flexible way for desired objective.
Relationship Management
It is to read one’s own emotions as well as emotions of others and manage interactions successfully for results.
1. Self Awareness
Self Awareness has two sections emotional self awareness and self confidence.
a. Emotional self awareness:
–Sense the emotions and read them correctly to assess why they are showing up.
–Identify more facts,acknowledge the feelings and assess what they communicate.
–Bring your thoughts and feelings to take appropriate actions on the usefulness of the feelings.
b. Self Confidence
It develops within from the level of domain knowledge in particular area.If a person is a financal expert from the academics and spend professional life in financial sectors he will certainly be able to perceive emotions in these areas in a better manner and interact more meaningfully. This principles apply equally to a person with good knowledge in IT and ITES sectors. Self confidence develops after a long experience in a particular domain.
2. Self Management
It can be described as the ability to manage own emotions, feelings, thoughts, adjusts with emotion of others in a flexible manner to express correctly to acheive certain goal.
3. Social Awareness
It refers to ability in sensing the thinking and perception of others. Empathy plays a big role in reading the emotions of others and binding people together in differnt kinds of relationship It is different from sympathy.
3. Relationship Management
This refers to the ability to take into account one’s own emotions and those of others to interact successfully. This dimension pulls all the three other dimensions for the for the final product Relationship management, which plays a big role when people work in a group. Leadership qualities are required to motivate a group of staff to improve staff productivity in an organisation. This dimension is most important to maintain group relationship. The competencies required for good relationship management are as Inspirational leadership, Influencing others, Developing others, change catalysist, conflict management, Building bonds and Teamwork. However, these are indicative and may vary depending on the task and organization.
